WRITING BIO
Sibuyiselo Dywili is a rising star in the South African theatre scene. Based in Cape Town, he collaborates closely with director Siphenathi Siqwayi, their partnership forming the foundation of Double Impact, a theatre production company they co-founded.
Sibuyiselo's journey began with his debut play, "Ganga Nyoko! Inzima Nyoko!" The play's success was immediate, winning Junkets Publishers' Script Writing competition in 2020 and securing funding for publication. The play's premiere at Kraai4Theatre in Kraaifontein drew a packed audience, and its powerful storytelling continued to resonate. It went on to win critical acclaim, including Best Director for Siphenathi Siqwayi and Best Actor for Sibuyiselo himself at the Baxter Theatre's Zabalaza Festival in 2021. "Ganga Nyoko! Inzima Nyoko!" continued its successful run, achieving sold-out performances during its production by the Zabalaza Festival in September 2021 and receiving three Fleur du Cap Award nominations in 2022, with Siphenathi Siqwayi winning for Best New Director.
Sibuyiselo's talent extends beyond his first play. In 2021, he was invited by Lara Foot to participate in Baxter Theatre's Masambe Writing Lab, where he penned his second IsiXhosa play, "NGXI!" This work was selected for presentation at KKNK's Teksmark program in 2022.
Always pushing boundaries, Sibuyiselo ventured into English playwriting in 2024 with "The Salt Lesson." This new work earned him a spot at the prestigious Jakes Gerwel Foundation & Passa Porta's From Brussels to Karoo writing residency. He further showcased his talent by presenting the play at Magnet Theatre under their For The Record project, a testament to his dedication to his craft.
